Pittsburgh Outsider Journals

Abstract

Three idiosyncratic manuscript journals of deeply cynical leftist political commentary, written by an unidentified Irish-American resident of Pittsburgh, ca. 1922-1932. The journals treat local, national, and international affairs, contemporaneous and historical: there is much on World War I, Ireland, and American politics generally. The volumes are illustrated with some 750 drawings, many of them portraits.

Polish Resistance During World War II Periodicals Collection

Scope and Contents

The collection contains ephemera publications produced in clandestinely operating printing shops throughout Poland during the German occupation. The collection covers a wide range of groups active in the underground from nationalist to Soviet sympathizing communists. Of particular interest are titles which were printed during the Warsaw Uprising (August 1-October 2, 1944).

Polish Solidarnosc Collection

This collection consists of political ephemera produced by Solidarity (Solidarnosc), a Polish labor union founded in 1980 at the Lenin Shipyard. It was the first trade union in a Warsaw Pact country that was not controlled by a communist party. Materials include broadsides, pamphlets, handbills, realia, and periodicals.
